мне для создания векторной поверхности достаточно PNG-маски, причем черно-белой или даже прозрачной
поверхность я создаю из обычной сферы из набора THREE.js, по маске я удаляю лишние элементы
у вас появляется возможность раскрашивать эту поверхность любым цветом, заполнять любой текстурой, задавать прозрачность и уровень слоя
