В 1943 году в японском городе Хиросима родилась девочка по имени Сасаки Садако. В 1945 году американцы сбросили на Хиросиму атомную бомбу. Девочка выжила, но стала болеть – у нее развился рак крови. Она лечилась в японской больнице, где ей рассказали старую легенду. Если человек сделает своими руками тысячу бумажных журавликов, он сможет загадать любое желание и оно сбудется. Садако сделала только 644 бумажных журавлика, больше она не смогла сделать – она умерла 25 октября 1955 года, когда ей было 12 лет. Но ее друзья за нее доделали оставшихся 356 журавликов, загадали одно-единственное желание – чтобы больше в мире не было войн и болезней, и похоронили Садако вместе с этими 1000 журавликами.
