The paper analyzes the possibility of comprehensive improvements in toxicity and fuel efficiency of automobile and tractor diesel engines while maintaining a sufficient level of reliability of their designs through the use of automatic control systems of thermal state. On the basis of the experiment conducted by the engine problem is solved by a compromise to optimize ecological and economic indicators for each mode specified model of the engine. As the controlling factors proposed to use the operating parameters - the engine speed and engine load, as controlled - advance angle of fuel supply and temperature state of the pistons. The evaluation of the environmental effects of proposed activities for the period of operation of a diesel engine, including the procedure of UNECE Regulations №24.
