Закрытость вчерашних слушаний была беспрецедентной. Как пояс­нили представители Белого дома, это объяснялось тем, что в ходе беседы членов комиссии с президентом и вице-президентом затрагивались вопро­сы, составляющие государственную тайну. До слушаний не был известен точный список вопросов, тем более что каждый член комиссии волен был задавать любые вопросы по своему усмотрению. А после слушаний все комментарии для прессы свелись к довольно расплывчатым формулировкам самого общего характера.
Однако исходя из содержания прошлых, открытых заседаний комис­сии, журналистам удалось более или менее смоделировать ход слушаний. Как заявил член комиссии, бывший сенатор-демократ Боб Керрей, задава­лись, по сути, те же вопросы, что и бывшим президенту и вице-президен­ту Биллу Клинтону и Элу Гору (они, кстати, тоже выступали на закрытом заседании комиссии, но их показания записывались), за одним исключе­нием — господам Бушу и Чейни был задан дополнительный вопрос: что вы делали 11 сентября 2001 года?
