Жители городов,которые получили магдебургское право, освобождались от феодальных повинностей, от суда и власти воевод, старост и других государственных чиновников. На основе магдебургского права в городе создавался выборный орган самоуправления-магистрат. С введением магдебургского права отменялось действие местного права, однако допускалось применение местных обычаев, если нормы,необходимые для решения спора, не были предусмотрены магдебургским правом.
