Фестиваль цветов - один из самых любимых и красочных праздников во многих странах мира, отмечается с незапамятных времен и привлекает пристальное внимание как местных жителей, так и гостей мероприятия.
Начало этому необычному фестивалю было положено в далеком 1947 году. После окончания Второй мировой войны население разрушенной и обнищавшей страны очень нуждалось в позитивных эмоциях. Их своим землякам дал Вильям ван Варменховен, производитель цветов и селекционер из города Хиллегома. Он украсил свой ветхий грузовик несколькими цветочными гирляндами и построил на нем первую цветочную композицию – огромного синего кита из гиацинтов. Проехав по нескольким окрестным населенным пунктам, ван Варменховен выставил украшенный грузовик возле своего дома на всеобщее обозрение. Позже к цветочному шествию присоединились еще несколько жителей близлежащих населенных пунктов. Сегодня, по подсчетам организаторов, цветочный парад собирает в среднем около миллиона зрителей. Кстати, праздник красоты имеет и сказочный подтекст. В этот день присутствующие загадывают желания, так как верят, что живущие в цветах эльфы обязательно их исполнят.
Фестиваль цветов в Нидерландах (Голландии) проводится в середине апреля. Нидерландцы обожают тюльпаны, которые стали настоящим символом этой страны.
