Октябрь 2014 года показал, насколько разной может быть осень в Москве. Разброс температурных экстремумов составил почти 30 градусов — от глубокого зимнего холода (-12) до почти летнего тепла (+18).
Начался месяц холодной погодой. В первой декаде из-за частых арктических вторжений отмечались первые ночные заморозки до −3, а дневные максимумы в отдельные дни не превышали +5. В итоге декада получилась холодной (аномалия −1,7) и сухой — выпало только 1,3 мм осадков, или 4 % от нормы.

Осадков выпало мало — 33 мм, что составляет лишь 54 % от среднего многолетнего (59 мм). Почти треть всей накопленной суммы (10 мм) пришлась на 20 октября и в значительном количестве (6 мм) выпала в виде мокрого снега и снега.
