Система школьного образования США является трехступенчатой и включает в себя начальную школу – Еlementary school, среднюю – Мiddle school и высшую – Нigh school. Иногда средняя и высшая объединяются под общим названием High school, но все равно подразделяются на две ступени – 6,7 и 8 классы – это Junior (младшая), a 9-12 классы – Senior (старшая) High school, с отдельно стоящими зданиями. Школьников здесь называют студентами – Student. В начальных школах Хьюстона – Еlementary school – учатся с шести лет, с 1 по 5 классы. Есть еще подготовительный, или нулевой класс, который называют preschool.
