Бывший военный врач Джон Ватсон знакомится с детективом Шерлоком Холмсом и они сразу же направляются на разгадку преступления.
В городе происходит серия из трёх самоубийств. Холмс предлагает Ватсону посетить четвёртое место преступления в качестве доктора.
По возвращении Джона домой Шерлок просит его отправить сообщение на номер последней погибшей жертвы с предложением о встрече. Через некоторое время к дому Шерлока подъехала машина и миссис Хадсон сообщила, что внизу Шерлока ожидает такси. Таксист рассказывает ему, что связан с убийствами. Он предлагает Шерлоку сыграть игру. Здание оцепляет полиция, и Шерлок, начиная делать выводы о стрелявшем, понимает, что это был Джон и прикрывает его перед полицейскими. После этого, Шерлок и Джон вернулись на Бейкер-стрит.
