IntroductionIn the modern system of education by V.m. Fillipov priority strategy is a strategy of "learning throughout life". The above strategy is needed to give students the ability to compete in the educational system, using modern technologies, maintain a high level of education.Thus, social processes in today's dynamic society pose in front of the school to provide such education, which guarantees student social sustainability and mobility conditions for its self-determination and self-development. These requirements have led to profound qualitative changes in education aimed at its further development (Sh Amonashvili, E.v. Bondarevskaâ, A.a. Verbitsky, B.s. Geršunskij, Vladimir Davydov, Nikolai Nikandrov, n.d. Nechaev, Igor Yakimanskaya etc.).In line with these changes, the education development concept aimed at shaping educational and cognitive development among pupils, allowing them to serve as an active, self-directed, creative personality.Research opportunities for students ' competence in the field of training and learning activities for teaching reading in a foreign language are devoted to the work of the U.v. Yeremina I.a., Winter, n.f. Korâkovcevoj, a.v. Scar.Theory and methods of teaching reading in a foreign language are devoted to treatises N.v. Baryshnikova, i.a. Winter, Z.i. Klyčnikovoj, S.k. Folomkinoj, as well as studies O.b. Bessert, N.n. Svetlovskoj, i.v. Usačevoj.The purpose of the coursework study development process of sociocultural competence in learning to read in English.To achieve this goal, the following objectives have been defined:-sociocultural competence as a component of communicative competence;-consider learning to read as communicative skills;-explore ways of development of socio-cultural competence.The object of research is the process of learning to read in English.The subject of the research is a technique of forming socio-cultural competence in the process of learning to read in English.The hypothesis of the study was that the successful formation of sociocultural competence in students when learning to read in English will be provided if:-the process of the formation of cultural competence inlearning to read in English will take place on the basis oflearning principles (principle of the leading role of self-directed learning activities, development of motivation, the principle of a reflexive assessment of teaching and learning activities, the principle of relying on the principle of self-assessment, pragmatic attitude to information, the principle of critical evaluation of information the principle of creative approach to working with information, the principle of the authenticity of the educational context, the principle of linguistic features of English language and culture).
