Вы не встретите на Новый год в Тайланде Деда Мороза — вместо него Вы увидите бочки и цистерны с водой, которая и считается символом Нового Года. На праздник по традиции принято «омывать» Будду. В каждой тайской семье есть маленькая фигурка Будды и на Новый Год члены семьи омывают ее водой с лепестками цветов. Считается, что если в Новый Год кого-то облить водой, то это принесет ему благословение Будды и смоет все плохое, накопившееся за год. На улицах в этот день обливают всех подряд, но никто и не думает обижаться — наоборот, каждый старается намокнуть, такие уж традиции.
