Центр ансамбля — Большой дворец, построенный на приморской террасе и обращенный к морю. Изящное трёхэтажное здание возвышается на 16-метровой приморской террасе. Крыша, увенчанная золочёной вазой, и золочёные главки флигельных пристроек придают зданию торжественность и монументальность. Окна украшены лепными обрамлениями, а балконы — коваными узорчатыми решётками. В Петродворце насчитывается 30 богато украшенных залов с расписными потолками, настенной живописью и орнаментальными узорами из паркета. Перед дворцом разбиты Верхний сад и Нижний парк, а декоративным подножием резиденции служит Большой каскад с фонтанами и скульптурами.
