Hi again! You remember me, don’t you? Last time we met I was talking
about my light-hearted childhood; my family and I were moving from one place
to the other. I changed schools, friends, surroundings, which was exciting,
though sometimes I felt despondent. Never mind. Today I would like to talk
about my education.
What can I say, I am 21, and I am a freshman at Western Michigan
University, which means that I am doing my first year of studies. Next year I
will become a sophomore, then a junior and finally - a senior or a fourth-year
student. If I am lucky I will be able to graduate with Bachelor’s degree in four
years. How much effort this will take! After baccalaureate [bækə'lɔːrɪt] I will
enroll into magistrate (to get Master’s degree).If I feel like studying further I
will join post-graduates, defend my thesis, and become a very happy PhD... I
don’t know. No one knows for sure. May be on the contrary I will drop out for
some reason. May be I will be expelled for truancy. Life is unpredictable.
My University is quite big. It is situated in a small town of Kalamazoo which
is not so far from Chicago. It is very clean on the University’s territory and the
buildings are kept renovated. Each classroom is equipped with a computer and a
projector, so our teachers have an opportunity to make our classes very dynamic
and interesting.
You probably know that higher education is not free in the USA, it is paid. A
student (or most often student’s parents) has to pay tuition for the courses he or
she takes. Still if a student is a good student, if he/she gets straight A’s, he/ she
may be rewarded with scholarship as an encouragement, and that scholarship
pays the tuition.
