Иван Васильевич Мамин — русский механик, изобретатель в области дизелестроения и тракторостроения, промышленник, основатель тракторостроения и дизельного двигателестроения в России.В 1904 г. братья Мамины подали в Петербург заявку на патент на дизельный двигатель внутреннего сгорания собственной конструкции, который работал на дешёвой бакинской нефти (тогда такой двигатель назывался «нефтянка») с расходом нефти «1/2 фунта на силу в час».
В 1905 г. двигатель конструкции братьев Маминых был испытан в имении помещика И. В. Кобзаря (был установлен на молотилку завода «Маршал и Ко») и по результатам испытания получил хорошие отзывы. В 1908 г. Мамины получили патент на свой двигатель.В 1910 г. (по другим сведениям - в 1911 либо 1912 г.) братья создают свою первую модель трактора «Русский трактор», работающего на сырой нефти и приспособленного к тяжёлым условиям российского сельского хозяйства, а летом-осенью 1914 г. начинается опытное производство усовершенствованного трактора (первая партия — 4 штуки), также были проведены испытания тракторов с плугом.
В 1915 г. братья переименовывают предприятие, теперь оно называется: «Специальный завод нефтяных двигателей и тракторов Я. В. Мамина». Открываются представительства предприятия Маминых в Казани, Москве, Самаре и Омске, начинается активная рекламная кампания продукции, как двигателей так и тракторов. Номенклатура предлагаемого товара растёт: это нефтяные двигатели линейки 16, 20, 25, 30 л.с.; трактора 20, 30, 60 л.с. с автоматическим пуском сжатым воздухом.
