Гигантские ленивцы — группа различных видов ленивцев, отличавшихся особо крупными размерами. Они возникли около 35 млн. лет назад и обитали на Американских континентах, достигая веса в несколько тонн и высоты в 6 м. Они жили не на деревьях, а на земле. Это были неуклюжие, медлительные животные. Они питались листьями, злаками, и не брезговали падалью. Ленивцы они были лёгкой добычей для древних людей.
