История о девочке-подростке, вот уже три года умирающей от рака легких. Но знаете, она не отчаившееся и ждущее своей смерти создание, она отличается ослепительной харизмой и великолепным чувством юмора. Она встречает парня, который пережил свой рак, и их связывает книга "Вечное страдание". Книга, которую бережно хранила и "носила" в своем сердце главная героиня Хейзел и которой она поделилась с ним. Преодолевая многочисленные преграды, они едут в Амстердам на встречу с автором ВС, чтобы узнать ответы на некоторые интересующие их вопросы относительно концовки книги, и кое-что оказывается неожиданным для обоих.
