The impact of mining and mining related activities on the environment in the form of air pollution also depends on numerous meteorological conditions, such as wind speed, wind direction, temperature, amount of rainfall, atmospheric stability, etc. (Karaca et al., 1995; Kartal and Ozer, 1998; Triantafyllou, 2001; Triantafyllou and Kassomenos, 2002; Gowda, 2016). Particulate matters are the prominent form of air pollution in the region, in contrast to vehicular emissions, where lead and gaseous pollutants are the major concern (Almbauer et al., 2001). This study has been carried out for assessing the impact on dust concentration in a mining area due to the operation of a few closed and proposed opencast mines as well as evaluating the reduction in dust concentration by replacing road transport to belt conveyor and rail transport for mineral movement in the study area. This study is different from work carried out by previous researchers related<br>to validation of the developed mining air pollution model (Asifa et al.,2018), emission estimation for CO concentration from traffic activities (Pan et al., 2016), assessment of mine planning using air quality (modelling Lilic et al., 2018), air pollutants modelling for industrial plants and traffic (Tuygun et al., 2017) and evaluation of model performance for urban street (Elbir et al., 2011). ...
